Actually their tech was +- the same if not more advanced. Human archaeologists mistakenly identified many neanderthal tools as belonging to homo sapiens because of chauvinism.
Also they learned the humans to draw and introduced many other things. If we combined population of humans and neanderthals together at that time, only 1% of population of that time would be neanderthal, which means they didn't even lose much fight in prehistoricotherwise would be wiped out completely
