Finns don't understand nuance and are taught to hate everything Russian. To them soviets and empire are the same thing. During the civil war Mannerheim told people that they were not fighting communists but Russians and when people enlisted to fight Russians they saw that they were fighting finnish communists and wanted to go back but Mannerheim didn't let them and they were executed
