Hello, I am russian, and one of the larger reasons (besides the war, obv) that I wanted to migrate out of the country was the fact russia levies draconic, pro-party censorship laws on it's population, and casually prosecutes people for things they say online, which for a liberal first-world european country sounded bonkers to me.

in estonia we generally don't have this kind of draconian speech monitoring but recently one very vocally pro-russian local was arrested (to be deported, IIRC) after years shilling for russia in the public sphere, i don't remember much about the case but i remember it was some kind of final straw and that he was previously warned

there are some shite examples in europe but not all are the same, uk is perhaps the worst, if germany has some sensorship its kinda understandable with their history.
in general freedom from harassment is valued as well as freedom of speech, and thoose things have an area where they overlap and make each other mutually exclusive, you cant have both at the same time. so they are regulated in various ways in that area. like for my flag i can say i hate muslims and muslims are not allowed the right to be offended. i can hate ideas and concepts and you must accept the consequences of the ideas and concepts you follow.
but i am not allowed to say i hate you, thats suddenly personal and you have a right to not get harassed
