If it's not caused by an actual medical condition or mental illness then the state should have the right to intervene. If not to remove the child outright at least to follow on the family and make sure they are doing what is necessary to reduce the harm done. I honestly don't see the difference between this situation and a kid being neglected amd malnourished. Both situations stunt their growth, impacts their health and is entirely the fault of the parents.

this is good in principle, the problem is that when you hand child over to caretakers who are not blood-related, the chance for sexual abuse skyrockets.

I was obese when I was a kid and immediately lost my excess weight as soon as I had money to buy my own food. What I always wanted was to be given just a small one-room apartment and an allowance big enough to buy my own food, so long as I get my school work etc. done.
