I’ve got two cats. I had a mouse as a child, and a bird (a cockatiel) as an adolescent, but the bird never liked me. My father adopted him when I left for college and they loved each other until the bird died. It was actually quite sweet.

Never had or wanted a dog, but I have nothing against them—several of my friends have dogs that I’m happy to hang out with.

Japanese cats have short tails.
My cat has a slightly shorter tail because she is a mixed breed.

I had a java sparrow.
Raising them since they were babies they were quite friendly to people and they perched on my hand or shoulder all the time.

That’s an adorable little bird. I’m very fond of wild/house sparrows, and have on a few occasions enjoyed hand-feeding them in parks where they’re accustomed to taking food from humans, but they don’t typically get that close to people for long.

The cockatiel I gave to my dad eventually spent a lot of time sitting on his shoulder. And I have friends with various small parrot-type birds that are noticeably quite affectionate. But “my” bird never bonded with me at all.

I don't own animals. They're not toys meant to be forced around for my own amusement. But I sometimes feed while cats or birds in the park, and rarely pet them, but only when they want to and come to me.

The bird I had was friendly to the whole family, including me, but basically they say birds look at their owners like partners.

My cat is a protected cat, and she needed someone to protect her because she catches and eats the Ogasawara Islands' endemic skipjacks.
