The christian god certainly does not exist.
A God-like being may exist but at best, he does not give a shit about human struggles and at worst he's actively evil.
In all likelihood though New Atheism is right - our "consciousness" whatever that is, is just a bunch of chemical reactions and we are all going to die and its going to be lights out. The closest experience to the afterlife was how life was before you were born, as far as anyone can tell. And it was lights out then and most likely the experience of death will be like that too.
