It's not so much a genetic or sociocultural thing, most Nafris are genetically almost the same and share similar culture and folklore. It's more simple than that.
Logic is as follows:
Arabophone? They'll be most likely to tell you they are "arab".
Not arabophone? They'll say that they are not.
I am not going to delve into the history of why this is the case and why the majority is increasingly speaking forms of vernacular "Arabic" (it's more complicated than that), but let's say things occurred.
