How the fuck is it possible to have a mafia in the 21st century as a first world country? Who come they haven't sent in the army and arrested them all? You'd think after Mussolini and 2 occupations someone would have done something about it

Ok serious question now

WHY THE FUCK can't we fix the mafia problem. Seriously

I know they're powerful, I know they have money, they're infiltrated everywhere, but still it's baffling that in fucking 2025 half of our country is literally ran by 80iq Calabresi and no one does a thing about it or act like it should be Italy no. 1 problem to fix.

> b-but mafia is actually beneficial and brings money to the economy
neck yourself if you come at me with this
> b-but mafia is unbeatable, they're too strong
It's fucking 2025, we can vaxx and control through apps, police and internet 60 million people during covid and we can't infiltrate a bunch of low brow terroni?
> b-but is political
Any party or political leader that says fighting mafia will be his serous number one priority will get a bazillion votes. Everyone hates them.

also organized crime there does human trafficking and importing horders of Africans is in the globalist interest, so the criminals are left alone mostly

The stores owned by my family and friends were never asked protection money, (looking at the map my area is supposed to be low mafia though), that said recently 6 mafiosi were arrested because they went asking for the ''pizzo'' to a construction company that was awarded a public contract to redo some roads here.

Going around asking for protection money is riskier than controlling the drug trade, which is how they make the bulk of their money

It does still happen though, you hear about people coming out and denouncing the fact that they were paying the pizzo, especially from the red areas on the map

protip in 3rdie countries where the government doesn't work, the average peasant outside the main city would rather pay taxes to criminals than the government, because the government is jewish criminals. Nobody respects jews in these areas, they hate jews for real, and they don't like all the gay stuff like homosexuals, women, and blacks in the city telling them to pay taxes for muslims. At least mafia police arabs better, since mafia officers remove fingers for theft and remove cocks for rape. This is italy's ancient constitution and it just works.

The mafia keeps existing because there is a "grey zone" of people supporting, making business with, sympathizing for, tolerating, ignoring (there's plenty of shades of grey) the mafia, particularly in the south and in the big cities.
Because of that when the State does a major anti mafia operation, the remnants of the mafia can retreat into pockets of safety through the support of the civil society of the "grey zone".
Just like the HIV retreats into the lymphatic system when it is attacked by anti retroviral therapy and after a while it keeps multiplying again and it's not eliminated from the body.
Therefore the mafia will be truly defeated when it will lose the support of the civil society and that requires a deep change of mentality in the affected areas through a complete generational turnover.

Because there is no point.
The first thing to happen as soon as you destroy a group is another cropping up, because all they're truly doing is occupying market niches that don't disappear just because you ban them.
Thus, politicians are faced with a choice: take a bribe, or do a lot of ultimately pointless work. What do you think they choose?

You're at the point where the bosses get locked up then their wives take over, need to go all out hardline to stop them even thinking about getting involved. But really it's a cultural problem (yes I am telling you about your country), I was reading about how some old mafia boss got arrested after years hiding out in some middle of nowhere village and the local old boomers were defending him "he was a good guy, didn' du nuffin" but he was linked with multiple bombings and killings (including a random pregnant woman and her child who got caught up in one of these bombs), how can the old farts defend such a person?

We have mafia here in London.

Cocaine imports: Irish (eg. Kinahan clan), Albanians, to a lesser extent Latin Americans (Latino diaspora is relatively small compared to the States)

Heroin imports: Turks/Kurds, to a lesser extent Pakistanis

Weed farming: Albanians, Vietnamese

Fraud: Nigerians, various East Europeans (eg Romanians), South Asians (eg. Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, etc)

Organised burglaries/theft/smash & grab: mainly native white Brits, some Irish travellers/gypsies, Romanians

Pimping: Albanians, other East Europeans

Illegal gambling: Chinese

Protection rackets: Turks/Kurds, Chinese (mostly in their own communities - your average pub landlord isn't getting shaken down by the triads)

Loansharking: white Brits

Human smuggling: Depends on where you're coming from.

Retail drug sales: white Brits, black Brits, Albanians, Sikhs, Bangladeshis, Arabs, Somalis, Nigerians, Iranians, Jamaicans, Pakistanis, Congolese, Lithuanians...

First of all, we'll have to see how long it last. Because people forget, but El Salvador has been going full human rights violations on organized crime for more than 20 years, and everytime crime went down, it quickly went back up again.
Secondly, all of Bukele's work (while extremely impressive given the starting point) resulted in El Salvador still having 4x Italy's homicide rate. What would he do in Italy where there are no crowds of tatted up gangbangers ready to be picked up by the army?
Thirdly, it's 2025. Our organized crime nowadays deals mostly with international smuggling. If the government started this kind of heavy handed push, the mafia would just roach out abroad until the government gives up, and then promptly come back like nothing happened.
Any kind of effort of this kind would need to be at minimum Europe wide to have any effect.

Street level crime is 99% foreign aside from teen crime. Their organization tops out at gang, they're not a mob proper like they have in their own countries.
The mob has no time for dealing to randos, it's a world-reaching wholesaler and has been kicking pusher duty onto expendables both in Italy and abroad.

The things that make a country first world ironically end up benefitting well organized criminal racketeers. The FBI in america is still obsessed with the Italian Mafia and spends tens of millions of dollars surveiling them to try and build criminal cases against them (and the investigations go on for years, usually, so the total cost to convict a handful of wops is like $200,000,000) and they still can't get rid of them. A thirdie state could just send the secret police in and execute known mafiosos.

The origins of sicilian mafia are debateable, but mafia-like organizations in the south predate unification by ages.
The camorra for example is named as an extremely well established presence in the mid 18th century, and the ndrangheta by the end of the same.
The biggest issue with dating the mafia is not so much the presence of organized crime in Sicily as the lack of sources referring to said crime by the terms of mafia or cosa nostra.

It's not only possible, it's recommended.
The alternative to having a *local* mafia
is NOT not having any mafia,
it's having *foreign* mafias.
Northern European urban centers are dominated by thirdy ethnic mafias; it's much worse than having the Italian one.
Btw in the past 25 years our mafia only killed a dozen people: https://it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vittime_di_Cosa_nostra_in_Italia and in Italy there are very few violent crimes.

In the 20th & 21st century, "organized crime” is under direct control of (varying from country) police & secret services.

Think of this question: How is it that police & secret services can't find drugs (or other illegal stuff), yet your kid/nephew/niece can find them easily?
This question stabs directly into the "raison d'etre” of the concept of the monopoly of violence and judicial power. It really is a modern racket for power.

How is it that human/drug/weapon trafficking exists? Because the police, secret services, military services, and their administrateive pawns (prosecutors, judges...) allows them to exist.

The "capo di tutti capi" is either the chief of police or military captain/major/colonel/general of the secret services. It's that simple.

Because organized crime is intentionally left alive & kept alive(!) by the same exact forces that were supposed to liquidate it, you're effectively controlled by national, with transnational, organized crime in your own country (taxes, laws, government contracts, rents, prices etc.).

The only reason crime exists – in the 21st century – is because you, as a civilian, are forbidden(!) by law to kill/liquidate state officials (magistrates...) and enforcers (policemen, secret service officers...) that maintain their friends at the internal & transnational [organized] crimacy.

People's lives are miserable because the police, secret services, elements of the army, are buddies (gay) with the local boss & their posse selling drugs, owning buildings or businesses that'd never receive EU funding to exist.

Why do you earn minimum salaries, besides other sky-rocketing amenities?
Criminocracy, plain and simple.

Nazis & Communists, or other extremist associations? Excepting foreign tampering and intricate money launder schemes, it's like asking where does Peter Parker vanishes once Spiderman appears: they're one n' the same.

Surveillance is for civilians to feel the pressure 24/7.

"Law and order" exists to remind you 24/7 who's boss (mayor, president of some regional polity, chief of police, officerate of secret services, officerate & generals of armed forces...) because the very same "law & order" forbids you to kill & takes advantage over a primal fear of the human specie: that of being confined (imprisoned) in a space as punishment/as consequence.

Our world in our current timetable is *THAT* demented.
