How different would the history of the middle east have been if islam had never flourished and had remained only a historical curiosity?

I have no idea. The impact of Islam on world history is so gigantic, I simply can't imagine a history without Islam.

It's like asking how the world would be without the Roman Empire ever existing

Vagueish answer

Islam remains one sect localized faith to the Arabian Peninsula.I feel without a common enemy, Christianity would fracture more with multiple independent churches, although I donโ€™t know much about Europe.

North and East Africa would slowly spread Christianity to their regions.

Iran would remain Zoroastrian, with migrating turks adopting that religion.

Central Asia would remain a mix of Manichaeism, Tengri, Buddhist, Zoroastrian, and whatever minority religion there is. Afghanistan would retain their sun worship. The Steppe too.

SEA would retain their mix of traditional faiths, buddhism, and Hinduism unless a new religion flourishes and establishes trade routes there.

Trade to and from the Indian ocean would be less since it was more interconnected due to islamic presence and their trade networks.

Politics wise, too much change to predict.

Is that right? I knew Zoroastrian was already falling out of favour in Iran before Islam but it canโ€™t already be dominated by Manichaeism, right? I thought in Central Asia, there is still many turks/steppefolk who worshipped Tengri/equivalent god? Buddhism is prevalent around the Tarim Basin, I donโ€™t know which parts of Central Asia Manichaeism spread to.

If you ignore whether God is real or not and just look at it sociopolitically, Islam is basically Protestianism before it was popular. A major tenet of Islam is the rejection of Trinity and the constant editing ("corruption") of the Bible. Most of Islamic teaching tallies with basic Judaism. If Islam didn't arise, then some form of Protestianism would have arisen much earlier instead to challenge the Papacy.
