I'd say the opposite, it's more prevalent in the protestant parts of northern Germany. Although maybe north Germans only stick out more due to their dialect. Austrians and Bavarians have pretty similar dialects.

Is that the stereotype for Americans or South Germans? Most German ancestry in the US comes from western/southern Germany and that basically is how most Whites in the entire western half of our country act.
