Also there was disproportionally more volunteers from Zagroje in the 90s war. Their lands weren't threatened by Serbs but they went to liberate Krajina regardless.
There was a documentary about vets one time with some guy Jovanović who moved with his parents from Serbia to Pula when he was a kid but fought on the Croatian side in the 90s.
