I think that's an indirect map of non-countries.

>Forests that got deforested?
Then you would have to cover 99% of the continent in crosses.

define old growth? if its defined as untouched since forever no such forest exist in europe, if its defined as being the exact same as untouched to the point you have too dig deep into it to see the difference 150 years is kinda the limit. at most wont see the difference on a 50 year old forest, if conditions are good 20 years can do a lot.

There are no true primary forests in Germany. The areas marked are just forests that have been unused by humans so long that they have returned to a state close to primary forests.

>define old growth?
my understanding of old-growth is "untouched by humans" but now looking at it i seem to have confused it with primeval
the only primeval forest in poland is the small part of białowieża complex that's under protection right now

i get that this is a point to some, but when its almost impossible to differ between them at 150ish years of age it makes no sense. thats where most trees are fully grown and they reach the equilibrium where as many falls down as new grows up., the undergrowth what most people see when hiking can be old forest in 20 years. and the wildlife doesnt care, they are back once the chainsaws are gone.
