The problem is that firsties have unrealistic expectations for "quality of life." I was middle class as a kid and both of my parents worked and we ate at home 6 days a week (pizza friday), they only bought two new cars over the course of 22 years, we lived in a smallish suburban home and only went on vacation once a year to neighboring states.
