Corn is arguably more of a staple food than rice and wheat. Beyond simply eating, it feeds all livestock, is used to make gasoline (car food), packing peanuts (box food), and its sugar derivatives have replaced the vast majority of sweeteners.
Also potato’s are a close runner up. In Idaho and Utah it’s common to eat bread made from potatoes.

I visited Japan. The people there love hamburgers. I tried to find *authentic* japanese food. It was difficult; easier to find here. Hamburger joints were everywhere though.
