I always felt that Danny Boyle was secretly kind of redpilled in this movie, and others. He seems to equate the introduction of large amounts of foreigners into Scotland with the large scale de-industrialization of the area, as well as the breaking down of culture/social bonds. >>212208853 >drug use has permanently stigmatised me
why would it stigmatize you in say, Latvia? Or the Netherlands?

Disagree, the "callbacks" are all designed to be thrown in the face of the audience for expecting it to be a retread of the original. I would also argue that it's not predictable at all, for the aforementioned reason. >>212213821

I actually think El Camino is underrated. I empathize and relate to its themes of moving on and escape. >>212215558 >there's no real redemption
That's the point. There's no redemption for any of them, whether in revenge (Begy, Sick Boy) or in nostalgia, in the case of Renton. You just process and try to not give into nostalgia, as Spud and Renton both do in the end.

Him going back in the first place was his f up. He thought he could be a tourist in his own youth, and he was faced with the stark reality. However, aside from that, he does good. He saves Spud. Whatshername gets to get some money and go back to her home country. Sick Boy seems to have accepted his place in life. Begby is back in prison where he belongs. Renton reunites with his father.
