there's nothing groundbreaking in the plot outline of the game. what makes it exceptional is the characters, the acting, the tone, the music. and in 2025 frankly the fact that the game even fucking works and can be finished with no crashes or bugs that ruin your flow is also exceptional.

Haven't played the game but from the things I know it seems like it develops JRPG mechanics further and the game is just more friendly to regular gamers.
JRPGs in general are very conservative, they abandoned the random encouter mechanic only like 15 years ago. The oldest JRPG game without it that I played was SMT4. So... The formule of success was making a fun to play JRPG in a cool setting of la belle epoque
