Strong PC gaming culture I reckon. Feel like nobody really gave two shits about Nintendo products here past the NES. Either you played on the PC or on PS1/PS2. I remember back in grade school even normie jocks would get hype for a quick match of counter-strike.

CS 1.6 was extremely popular because it ran on toasters, I still play 1.6 with thirdies because I don't like newer counter strikes, CSS while not good or popular had the most fun and bizzare gameplay modes concerning zombies, surfing, jailbreak and etc so it was good.
