Yes, occupation started here in 900 AD. Which for the USA is old for settlement. You need tribal permission and now I got it and I'm going! Who's excited for me? I've always wanted to go!

It's called Sky City in Acoma Pueblo and it still looks a lot like this. It's up on a big big high plateau.

And? I've wanted to go my whole life. Also, New Mexico is still very indigenous and you have to respect the various Pueblo people when you are on their land.

nowadays its all 500 a night bnbs for white girls to take pictures, but up until the 80s it was unironically called "the shame of italy" because people lived in caves with no sewers

this is the "new" old town, there's the older settlements which are basically apartments carved into the sides of a canyon

it has its appeal. The whole town's on a slope so wherever you are you get a full view of the canyon which is nice nature-wise.
Also going into the sassi is something. Seeing where people lived and being able to see the single strokes of carving into the bare stone which was done by someone who has been dead for tens of thousands of years is nice.

poop in bucket, empty bucket into canyon, repeat.
It's actually how we know people have lived there since the neolithic; there's layers of trash at the bottom and the first one goes back to then.
