Just arrived in my ancestral homeland a couple of days ago because I'm attending a big concert soon. What can I expect?
What I've seen and experienced so far seems underwhelming to say the least.
The people I've met this far have almost all been super rude and even aggressive and everything seems just kind of gray and depressing, despite the sun and the heat. Also the prices are surprisingly high, I thought this was supposed to be a Mediterranean heaven with low prices and really chill natives?

>why aren't heat waves making dystopian Mitteleuropa feel nice
You need to go to the actual Mediterranean if you want the Mediterranean summer experience. It'll still be expensive and the waiters will be even ruder, though. I'm from the coast and live in Zagreb, and Zagreb is okay, but it's not a touristy place and my favorite spots are random neighbourhood cafes or straight up going to the mall. You can walk through Gradec/Kaptol in one day, maybe check out Medvedgrad, and that's it as far as historical/cultural sightseeing goes. In the summer the only time I'm outside is on the building - car - building relation. Zagreb is best in early spring. People aren't chill because they hate their lives.

You're probably driving too slow. Gotta go fast in Zagreb, the only speed limit is the distance between you and the car in front of you, and you also need to keep that distance miniscule or the guy behind you will lose his shit. You gotta cut in, you gotta push out other people out of your lane. When you get used to Zagreb traffic and switch to Zadar traffic, you will lose your shit over how slow and passive it feels.
>similar to Germany or Austria
Visually, it is. Better don't visit those two either.
>What the hell is even happening here?
West-tier prices without West-tier salaries. Perpetually shitty government. Corruption scandals so common no one even cares anymore. Housing prices bad enough that singles shouldn't even attempt purchasing any type of a home. Nepali/Indian invasion. The economic advancement that did happen just ended up making people greedier and more bitter. People are going out of their financial means just to prove they're supposedly doing well. There's a term called "Croatian jal", it's a specific type of jealousy that a Croat feels only towards other Croats. Like if you have two Croats in Germany, they will hate it if the other guy is doing good. A good expression portraying Croatian mentality is "as long as the neighbour's cow dies", meaning that whatever misfortune strikes you, it's not so bad as long as your neighbour is also affected by it.

>Yeah I was about to ask about that
The regular "line gotta go up" metrics went up and Croatia started seeming more first worldy, so a lot of these "aggregator" companies spawned that deal with importing Indian, Nepalis and Filipinos over here. The way it works is that you're some poor Nepali, you see a poster of some new super cool EU country and promise of money and you go to sign up, but you first have to sell everything you own to pay the company for their "services" and then they ship you to Zagreb, stuff you in a house with 39 other Nepalis, tell you that you're now a delivery boy and your company signs a contract with one of the delivery companies that they will "borrow" their workers (you) to them for peanut money (a bit like slave trade). You get paid in peanuts, but you can't speak Croatian so you don't even know it's peanuts and you're unironically happy living in this misery because apparently Nepal is really really shit and if you live like an ant, you get to send couple of hundred euros to your family back in Nepal. It also drove out Croats out of delivery jobs, taxi driving and similar because it drove down the pay in these jobs.

Yeah, you can go in circles there in case you missed something. Sit down, drink something and that's it, the only way to enjoy Zagreb is to expect nothing. Swanky Bar in Ilica is nice. Savska street has a club called Vintage, it's chill, not nothing special. There's also Močvara if you want to stare at hot alt teens. Personally, I don't go anywhere that involves walking during summer heat.

Zagreb wasn't officially a city until the 19th century. It was secular Gradec and clerical Kaptol that are each on their own hill and were tiny fort-towns separated by a creek that occasionally killed each other. North Croatia was entirely irrelevant until Ottomans invaded and Venetians took the coast, which is where the actual historical core of Croatia was.

I deliberately make a point out of making diasporafags who are visiting for the first time feel as unwelcome and as uncomfortable as possible, and the amount of roasting grows proportionally to their level of being unable to speak our language
Just so they don't forget they will never be one of us
Especially b*snian catholics who try and usurp the word "Croat" for themselves
Daddy moved to Canada and now you come back here and act like you own the place with his money? Well, someone has to teach you where you belong (in the trash)

Not every diasporafag who comes here will experience it either, but posting on 4chan makes it way more likely.

Doesn't matter, American tourists get the same treatment, regardless of their claimed heritage, as soon as I hear their accents
But they are mostly too stupid to insult, and will stand there wondering what a strange sense humour we have because others are laughing but they don't get what's funny (which is the exact thing that is funny)

True I do get the impression that this guy might be a faggot based on his posts which probably factored more into the hostility he received than him just being a diasporafag.

yea right lol. Slovenia has the right to say it looks like Austria or Germany, Croatia no.

Yeah, a good part of Croatia is really lame and is just a generic eastern european slopfest type of a country, however, the western side of the country should definitely be checked out before making any too harsh judgements.

Literally how Russians view this world. Slavs truly are the subhumans of Europe, barely better than Albanians.

its far from that. theres a lot of diversity in the geography of the country. hilly and fertile in the north and west. mountainous, much harsher climate in the south inland, and med climate on the coast with extreme winds. very fertile and flat in the east (pannonian basin).

obviously these people lead very very different lives.

Dalmatia: rob tourists and become a millionaire
Slavonia: escape to Germany and never come back
Northwest: drink yourself to death because you hate life (or sometimes just hang yourself if drinking takes too long)
