No, latvian and lithuanian are surprisingly far apart. Technically there's samogitian that sounds slightly closer to latvian, but it's pretty surface level.


I once witnessed a romanian have a conversation with two paraguayans in what I can only presume was an ungodly mix of the two languages, so presumably there's some intelligibility there.

if you are a non retarded spanish native speaker, you can understand like 60-75% of portuguese depending of the topic
in fact the only romance language which is actually hard to understand at least something of it, it's french.

Italians and spaniards can understand each other a little, we have a lot of words in common.

I used to be able to understand RTPI when their broadcasts were available through Spanish cable providers many years ago. The very few times I heard brazilian portuguese, it sounded like monkey talk to me, I barely understood a word.

Dutch understand Afrikaans better than the other way around because Afrikaans is Dutch with simplified grammar. They don't conjugate verbs for person
