We obtained our independence by sending a delegation of lawyers to the British Parliament and convincing them it was viable. Previously, the British already declared us a Dominion after WWII but we didn't want that. The Brits was actually impressed by this gentlemanly effort and went to great lengths to make it possible, including helping us fight off the commies and Indonesia.
