Same. We can't even modify our houses without making an application. Sounds shit but imagine your neighbour just adding a 10m metal thing on top of his house and blocking your sunlight.

No, of course not. People who build their own houses here typically make them pretty nice. I suspect the inspiration for this house was the longhouses of old, in a modern gestalt.

Your countries lack favela wizard towers which is why you don't have protection against demonic incursions slowly corrupting the moral soul of your nations.

i live in our version of this. its diy buildt in the late 50/early 60 by a construction worker. everything is made from leftover materials from the construction sites he worked on, from old formwork to crate and pallet material. but its done by the book, made to look good and will outlast me.

no, every building no matter how small has a state mandated architect and engineer, following all norms and regulations, when it's ready we have a federal inspector come and measure every corner with calipers to see if it's up to code, this is also when the so called penis inspection day happens

Happens here because the salary is less than $200/month. An entire single board of plyboard is 2/4 of the average minimum wage and a bag of cement is 1/4. Not counting the cost of tools, no power tools since they go for $300 and up.
