Yes, in the case of Peru, the Morochuco, our earliest herding culture, which also seems to be the oldest in Spanish South America, emerged during the turmoil that characterized the land before the Viceroyalty was consolidated.

As background: during the conquistadors’ civil war, which unfolded alongside the Neo-Inca state’s establishment, Gonzalo’s forces emerged victorious after decapitating Peru’s de facto ruler, the mestizo Almagro el Mozo, whose aides had murdered Francisco Pizarro, who himself had killed Almagro the elder. The Crown sent the first Viceroy, Blasco Núñez Vela, to restore order and claim the land, since Pizarro and Almagro the elder, the men originally granted the territory, were both dead. Blasco was soon defeated and beheaded by Gonzalo Pizarro, whose followers even urged him to marry an Inca princess and be crowned king of Peru. Charles V acted swiftly, sending Pedro de la Gasca to pacify Peru and have Gonzalo executed.

It was in this context that, after the defeat of Gonzalo’s army, some of the cavalrymen took refuge from the crown among the Morochuco Indians near Ayacucho, where the land is secluded (even nowadays, they remain remote Quechua speakers), helping shape a herding culture there.

Fast-forward almost 300 years to the early 19th century and the decisive final battles of Peruvian independence near Ayacucho. Then the mounted Morochucos chose to join the fight, led by their indian chieftain and national hero, Basilio Auqui Huaytalla. Auqui = heir / next in line to be the curaca (leader) of the ayllu (clan). Huaytalla = green pasture.

Qorilazo comes from the spanish lazo and the runasimi (commonly known as quechua in Spanish) cori/qori = gold, so it means golden lasso. They are more recent than Ayacucho’s Morochuco and originated among the Chumbivilca indians in the southern part of the Cuzco region. They are Quechua speakers of the Chanka variety, so the q is pronounced almost the like the english h.

The Chalan are from Peru’s northern coast (chala is quechua for coast); their culture began as more indio-mestizo and has become even more so as Peru’s coast modernized more than other parts of the country.

Patagonia is huge, in there you could fit Spain, Portugal, Germany, Estonia, and a few more countries size-wise. And native people were just a handful of tribes with relative few people. Theres not a chance in the World theyve seen every mountain, river, lake or flatlands there are out there along the Andes before.

Cool, the accent sounds quite different from Porteño. Here, among the types of cowboy music, these are some bits of waylas ie music for the Qorilazos' Takanakuy, traditionally performed by women as their custom mandates. Other ritual fights like Toqto were also traditionally accompanied by women singing since time immemorial, but this has gradually been replaced by male bands:
