Of course europeans had their own reasons to colonize. But to say it was a purely exploitative relation is bordering on insanity. Much like in our own societies, it was nothing more than a transactial relationship. Europeans provided the capital, expertise and knowledge and the colonials labor. Both sides contributed and both sides got rewarded. Europeans had cheap products and colonials a source of revenue they would not have had otherwise. Because it's important to remember not sll colonial ventures used slave labor. As a fact very few did, most were staffed by people who came willingly. Working for an european meant a stable source of income, as well as amenities they wouldn't have dreamt of. Many chose to work there and calling it exploitation or theft is as ridiculous as calling your employer a thief because you work for him.
And now that the Europeans left, they effectively regressed. All the infrastructure and businesses which were built have been left abandoned. Their productive output which the colonials could have used to enrich themselves, our gift to them, squandered. And now they have come running back begging for foreign investment...
