Do you know that the capital city of New Zealand has an entire peninsula that's blocked off from the rest of the city by its international airport. The Miramar Peninsular has a population of 20,000 people and their only way to get to and from the city is through a two-lane road that goes past the airport, or a narrow service road that goes underneath it to the south.

This is the kind of town planning I would have done in Sim City 4 when I was 12. Can any Kiwi bros comment on what this road is like?

It's a very long bike ride from Miramar to Downtown Wellington, so people must use their automobiles and drive. Even 5-10,000 people using their automobile every day on a 2 lane road is quite congesting. We do not believe in public transport in the Southern Hemisphere.

Do those 20K people ALL need to go to downtown Wellington at the same time ? This road is probably more than enough, they would have enlarged it easily if that was a problem.

I live in a country in which it is absolutely illegal to demolish a part of the city center to make it more liveable and available for the people to work in, because it's old or something.
And now we got thousands of cities, big ones too, that are reduced to mere tourist attractions

Itโ€™s not when itโ€™s badly designed like LAโ€™s. Tokyo is a well-connected city, like a conglomeration of smaller towns, and it has plenty of parks, lakes, canals, on top of the best public transport in the world.

You can get there on a Cruise Ship but there's no ferries that go there. Even the ferry that crosses the north and south island is like a 1 hour boat ride and is only slightly narrower than the English channel.

The closest landmass is Australia at about 1600km from their closest points. It would be like taking a ferry from Netherlands to Iceland
