he's a piece of shit that sat on his horde of cash instead of pushing forward on civilization defining projects like space exploration

not to mention his "charity" has actually increased suffering in africa massively due to causing half a BILLION children to be born there in that shithole dark continent. he should be arrested for that alone.

I like musk 100x more than I like him

How is this pushing civilization forwards? The end goal of all these space programs is to leave the Earth behind as we continue to trash it and leave in uninhabitable. We aren't meant to live on another planet breathing artificial air, we're meant to live here.

ok vscode was -decent- as of the time when it was released. but still not enough to be in the -good- category.

the only reason i have it installed is it's popularity means a lot of plugins, tutorials are for it. but there are better programs that do it's task whether you want to go the bloated route (jetbrains) or the fast route (zed editor)

tesla pioneered a lot of shit but cars switching to LI-ION was basically inevitable since the 90s. EVs would be popular with or without him. same with paypal and he had an even smaller role in that one.

the one big, impressive thing he did which pushed tech forward more than anything else is assembling the team that wrote the falcon 9 fight control software. like 30 dudes who wrote the C++ program running on the rocket that controls it and lands the booster back.

that's not quite true - and to the extent that it is, is it actually worse than other races?

indians practice co-ethnic hiring / ethnic nepotism about as much as the taiwanese and japanese do.
are you also mad at them?

what's actually happening here is angry assholes are looking for an issue that doesn't actually exist.

I know very, VERY few indian americans like me who work primarily with other indians. that's more a first gen fresh off the boat thing. No indian kid growing up in the USA would want to work at some sweatshop like infosys or TCS.

>>212391377
any action can be judged, especially on the scale of musk or gates. they have made choices on how to spend their money, we might as well talk about the outcomes

I'm not saying we should be crying about how billionaires spend their money, I don't even really care about that. Purely comparing two capital intensive projects (spaceX vs Gates Foundation's charity work) I think the impact of SpaceX will be far greater while gates foundation might actually be a net negative.

there is literally zero practical value in colonizing any celestial object except maybe if the moon has Helium-3 or some shit. Mars? Mars is a thousand times worse than any place on earth, if you want to live in a hostile desert you can live on antartica, which at least has air. Resources? The cost of shipping to/from mars is so fantastically high the only thing with a worse return on investment would be synthesizing gold in a particle accelerator. In addition to this, if you EVER colonize any other planet in a manner where they are self-sufficient and can export resources, they're going to secede and so there's not even any point in sending other people there to live shit lives and die for you in the martian mines. Extraplanetary colonization is just a fanciful sci-fi concept like warp speed or time travel

honestly I've used all three OS's extensively and there are things I like and don't like about all of them

I use windows now because I no longer have the privilege of caring so much about aesthetics. Windows just works in a way that macOS and debian with GNOME never will. And that isn't to say that windows *cannot* be aesthetic.

Aesthetically? Debian with GNOME was the absolute king. such a clean and functional OS. If I just needed a computer for using the browser I would absolutely use that.

MacOS was great for web and iOS development. it's just so simple to get a clean macbook and get started on some cursor / vs code project immediately. I like the unix filesystem.

But now? I am at a point in my life where I need to use simulation software like OpenFOAM, I need to use unreal engine and blender and all the plugins that both require, I need to use software that is often only built for windows. I also enjoy being able to play video games occasionally. So it's just common sense for me to stay on windows.

here are some packages I recently downloaded, fluidflux and ultradynamicsky. Can I do this so easily on mac or linux? fuck no.
