Tokyo has its own kind of special urban charm. At least, it does from the outside. I imagine you'd adapt to any environment you live in and become bored of it eventually. Europeans do a lot of bitching and moaning about Europe and how much they suffer in it. I think we need to remember that the whole world is a miracle. There are things to appreciate about every place. We just lose sight of those wonderful things about our own homes because we've been exposed to them so often they've become mundane.

Asian cities are for people who live there, and Westoid cities are for passing strangers to photograph. Many Japanese buildings look run down outside but vast majority of them are well-maintained inside for people to work or live in it comfortably. Same is true for S. Korea and Taiwan. Many westoid buildings look great outside but inside it's a complete mess and uncomfortable and even dangerous for people to occupy but city governments don't do shit as long as the outside looks good.
