I dont know why but if they did that here and i knew someone was in the bathroom i'd have to fight the urge to turn the light off on them.

So you can turn on the lights BEFORE entering the toilet. Also, much safer because the switch won't get wet.

Older houses did it for the same reason you never used to have outlets in a bathroom. Poor IP codes. These days idk. Because they're used to it?

There was no GFCI/RCD back in the day so having 230V next to water was thought of as a taboo. Not that it stops favelanigs from hooking up those heated showerhead death machines, but that's another topic of conversation.
