That's too abstract for them. When they learn that something is something, to them it can only be that, and outside parameters can't exist. It's a bit odd to watch people that can be smart in other areas fail so miserably in others that are by comparison much simpler to grasp. He genuinely cannot believe that greeks today are the same or better than greeks from the past because to his caveman brain "ancient greece le best, so ancient greeks le best, so if modern greece not le best then modern greeks not le best and blablabla". Why can't I share a planet with the few people alive that have a fully working brain.
