From Richmond (former capital of the confederacy) on down every city listed is pretty famous and has been mentioned countless times through out our history and media. There's plenty of cities on the red that are well known. I get the feeling you're basing your judgement on the amount of media presences and mentions they get because how the hell aren't you familiar with places like Philly, Gettysburg, Atlantic City, Richmond, Boston, Newport, Providence, NYC etc. These cities are baked into American history and we literally learn about them or hear mentions of them in school. I'll say the only truly irrelevant states in the red are the 3 northern New England states.
