Why do ESLs consume English speaking media more than their native language content

Because it is available for free online. Brazilians are a bunch of money grabbing lazy fuckers. They will translate shit that they get for free in English put it in some stupid video course and sell to normies.

the original language is preferable whenever possible. if the source material is in english, why would I bother with a translation?
likewise if it's a french or whatever movie, portuguese or english subs would be equally as acceptable.

Russian and Ukrainian media was hard to consume even before 2022 due to sheer retardation of the population but after the war started all the negatives were amplified by five. I hate the American MAGA retardation but it still can't even hold a candle to the Ukrainian and Russian patriots (as usual, the patriots only give a shit about making someone's life miserable and don't give a fuck about the well being of their own countrymen)

Yeah, that's literally the main reason I learned english by myself as a kid. Argentinian entertainment was mid or just straight out sucked when I was a kid. I preferred music from the US or the UK, or some tv shows and youtube content was all in english, or to understand some stuff like VOCALOID, I first had to understand english.
Thanks to that I achieved a C2 english level, just from exposing myself to English media non-stop, and talking to other english speakers, both native and learners.
It's not that my country didn't have good content, but good modern content usually was easier to find in English media or spaces. I love argentinian rock from the 80s, but god damn. Pink Floyd, Metallica and Pantera went too hard to miss out on 'em.

Because the best entertainment industry in the world is American and American companies basically own the Internet space. No shit is everyone going to consume English speaking media and learn the English language. This is all thanks to America's laws and values that benefitted talented and creative people for over a century and let them become rich doing their thing. Other countries have too much regulations and they don't pay nearly as well so plenty of people give up on making something
Also you have to have in mind that lots of countries are just small so their local media might not offer much things that are interesting to lots of their people to begin with and some countries are poor so there's not gonna be a lot of media there because making money doing something creative is a huge gamble in life. English speaking media fills the void because you can easily find any niche thing you're into. Metal music for example is something that in America isn't uncommon at all but in Serbia there has never been a single mainstream metal band and none of them are good in the slightest

i'm a millennial boomer so i'm too old for japanese cartoons and their dramas and movies are cancerous in their own way
i don't even want to talk about korea. what i want to watch is sci-fi, action, or political thrillers with a dry cold tone, and what korea offers me in those genres is "at home" tier

As a teen I wanted to watch the second half of Avatar last airbender season 2 but it wasn't dubbed yet so I watched it in english. After that I became kind of a snob about it and insisted to not watch anything dubbed anymore and watched everything in english if possible
