other Unitedstatians can chime in, but in American History class we read the chapter from Howard Zinn's book a People's History of the US about columbus and it paints him in a very negative light. I think this a part of the curriculum in a lot of schools. There was really no counter either; just Columbus is the devil incarnate.

I actually live in Columbus Ohio and we had a huge statue of him downtown which they removed summer of 2020. There were discussions to even rename the city, some less serious than others.
