White was always synonymous with European, Europeans acknowledged that the edges of Europe (the far south of Europe, the far east of Europe) had some non-white admixture but because they are majority European genetically they were considered Europeans. Hispanics might be able to be classified as White some day because they are mixed with Spanish blood, but Muslims from Asia and Africa will never be considered White.
