It's really sad to see how much historical heritage Hungary has lost to its neighbors who had nothing to do with all that stuff

I don't like it.
It's 19th century medievalist kitsch (many "castles" in Europe are that, hey were rebuild in a nicer looking form in the 19th century) plus the "Hungarian" baggage
We should use a fortress from Moldova or Wallachia instead, less spectacular but more authentic.

Not entirely, but many famous castles in Europe were radically transformed in the 19th century, and people assume this is how they looked like initially, which isn't true many of these were rebuild countless times and the initial form is long gone.

I have seen some people claim that here and there, but I seriously cannot believe that all of them are like that, the grift cannot continue for so long without a significant number of them being authentically preserved

Well that's why I wrote "restored", here in jeetland the gov is big on historical revisionism so many IVC sites are being "restored" for tourism rather than heritage

if its done here its because of tourism

Back in the 1800s and early 1900s it was a thing among nobles to buy old castles and overhaul them so they can larp as feudal lords in them, which is where most restorations came from, nowdays its mostly to make it more modern, such as putting a restaurant in it or accommodations

Difference here being russians never inhabited my country and only owned it for ~100 years as opposed to hungary having transylvania thousand years and way before any meaningful vlach settlements

Many castles were simply destroyed (or at least heavily damaged) by some war or the other and by the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries they have lost their defensive value. Thus they were repurposed as palaces and rebuilt as such.

The castle that inspired Germans and French medievalists during XIX century was the Alcazar of Segovia, a castle built by Castilian royalty during XIII century, with a Flemish roof add by Habsboourgs during XVI century.

There used to be others castles as that, but they didn't survived into modernity. Mostly because of wars and specially because the nobility demolished them to built new modern mansions.

After Napoleonic invasions, French architects used to visit Segovia because of it, they used to call it the Chateau of Segovia.
