Pyongyang is expanding probably people who are moving from villages to there for work, but they are also building housing in another cities and villages too. I'm guessing they are profiting a lot from the Russian-Ukraine war. Basically Russia is importing everything from clothes to electronics (fridges, microwaves etc) from norks

they hit the gold mind because of this war, China also uses norks for manufacturing stuff so a lot of made in china stuff is actually made in nk

I must admit I kinda envy East Asians how they always put aesthetics first (probably feng shui o algo). NK houses look much better than what east European commies built in the 1980s

You live in walking or at worse bicycle distance from your job in North Korea. They just build your home next to where you work. Depending on your caste you work a different amount and have better or worse amenities. The "political prisons" are just the lowest caste life, you work 12 hours a day and have the bare minimum for life needed, but you still jist live in basically an apartment and walk to work for your 12 hour shift doing the worst jobs in the country. Lately though they are building things that hilariously might give them very high quality of life. They would honestly probably have better quality of life than South Koreans if it were not for sanctions and USA help.

This isn't a pro-conmunism post, I'm suggesting the Kim dynasty was chosen by fate. You all doubted them but they got good at statebuilding using their gookclick powers while you played your video games. Total Juche victory. The tortoise overtakes the hare.

cleanliness and aesthetics is always one of the most important things in east asian societies because it's the starting point for their civilizations. They also realize that global image is important. As for their houses, I'm pretty sure they material they use is cheaper but very good quality. I honestly can see NK becoming a comfy country in a couple decades, Kim is obviously trying to open up and be like China, there's a lot of fucking development happen there from all the sattielte images that are posted. They are light years ahead of countries with bigger GDPs like India, Nigeria etc

Also I think Euros think too short term while East Asia will play the long game as well

They don't need a lot of money to build things. They use slave labor from conscripts, extract building materials from rural areas and state owned slave factories, use cheap engineers from China...etc

The executive has enormous planning authority, so no lower municipal council can veto any construction. No environmental protections, no work health & safety provisions, and they can get away with corners being cut. It's the same difference with China. Either we slash some regulations to get homes built or we accept a dictatorship to get all this infrastructure built.

It's not even a question of capitalism vs. socialism, but regulation vs. deregulation. A more deregulated housing market or zoning laws may bring the best of both worlds.

Basically, our issue comes down to the fact that our democratic checks & balances act as a ringed funnel. With each new build, it has to pass through several of these layers; while in less democratic societies, all these rings on the funnel are nowhere to be found. So the build can be poured through easy as, still with many downsides to that, even so. It is best to strike a perfect balance.

I wouldn't be surprised, they need to buy something as a show of good will after fatman is sending his malnourished midgets to die in Ukraine. Your country is probably doing more for NK economically than China ever has in the past 2 decades. China only merely props it up, prevents collapse. KJU had to reach out to you guys to get something more than just the bare minimum.
