That's rough. History is also one of those things that you can just memorize quickly and forget, just to pass the course. So that's probably what you did if it was a drag.

We had a guy come in during high school and tell the story of the Illiad out loud during history class. It was like once a week for a month or so. He even brought props like coins of the era, spearhead in a glass box, example of fabric, etc and a couple of relevant pictures to pass around while he spoke.
Was supremely kino and the peak way to experience the story, nothing comes close.
Here I'm certain this was him it all checks out

Wait until you get right into the middle and every five pages it's the repeated simile about hunting a boar or a lion in the woods and the warrior is compared to a crazed boar or lion on the loose while another warrior is compared to the one who hunts him. I'm sure some professor has catalogued every instance of it, happens at LEAST five times and it's probably really more like 10-12 times. And no, I don't care that the point is to establish a poetic rhythm, a possible retort. Reading the same idea for a half page more than three or four times over 150 pages or so gets very tiresome.

Because the warrior spirit of Greco-Roman civilization is what is necessary to become a saint. To be a saint you must be in constant warfare against the Devil. The more warlike Western Roman sphere triumphed over the Eastern part in so many ways, hence why Catholicism is greater in numbers than Orthodoxy today. Therefore, Catholic children must be first pagan in their aggression, discipline, and athletics so that they can balance that against the overwhelming love and peace of God that comes later. This roots out all the gnostic ideas of asexuality, absolute pacifism, and aloofness from reality which poisons us today from believers in corrupted Christianity.

Westoids usually have more limited education (which ends up being better and more efficient because we forget 90% of it), especially when it comes to classicism, history, literature and geography. I had to write a report on fucking Beowulf.

I’m pulling this out of my arse but I imagine poor people’s boats weren’t usually tarred (expensive endeavor), so black ship might refer to an actual warship owned by a powerful king or general.

No, it does not. In my sunday school we were taught about the rightful application of violence. Every other Sunday sermon we are told to volunteer more in helping the poor, old, and disabled, which is engagement with reality. The Archbishop here teaches that, and there is stuff in the Catechism that teaches that (not gonna waste time citing those parts, you can look that up yourself).

Anonymous United States No.212600254 [Report]
>>212599810
The beatitudes are about people with problems being satisfied by the power of God. So "the meek inheriting the earth" part means they will take on the attributes to rule the earth, which is what happened with Christians controlling the military through the emperor by God's power. The Old Testament is also full of such examples, with David, Gideon, Maccabees, etc. So to read this line otherwise is to read it out of context of God as a warrior God, and Jesus coming back as a white-clothed horseman, a literal crusader knight.
