Trotsky had an unlikable personality, kinda haughty and arrogant. Basically only Lenin liked and supported him in the Party, most of the old bolsheviks couldn't really stand him, once Lenin was dead he started being demoted to lesser and lesser positions until he was expelled. Even when he was in the Politburo after Lenin death the other Politburo members would discuss matters without him, then have a mock session with Trotsky but the decisions had already been made beforehand
