I actually like lentils (eat two times a week). But this guy made the historical dish wrong. He used the wrong variety of lentils that would exist in Europe at the time.

Either you use butter or olive oil. A soup without oil is just leftover water. Especially if you are not using a very fatty meat, like chicken soup or vegetable soups.
I prefer to use olive oil on fresh vegetable soups and butter on more hearty soups (like the ones with dumplings).

I disliked lentils as a kid but I love them now, I try to have them as a second side dish as much as possible, today I basically boiled and pureed them, added a bit of ev olive oil on top and a little red wine vinegar had a little piece of feta on the side.

You realise that being in the Roman Empire was comically dangerous, right?
We are talking about 37 of the 70/80 (depending on what you see as the Roman Empire and emperors) being assassinated.
And Marcus Aurelius did not have an easy life. He inherited the empire collapsing. Was forced to marry her whore cousin, which led to most of his kids dying very early (9 of them did not reach adult life, and the only male who survived was insane).
I know people who mentally checked off for much less.

The issue with Marcus Aurelius's teachings is that he did not write what he wrote expecting to publish it. He did not even plan to show it to someone... It just happens he was great, and therefore people seek his wisdom.
Sure, Seneca is a much better Stoic philosopher, but it's not his fault he was an emperor and people go straight for him.
