We are talking about 37 of the 70/80 (depending on what you see as the Roman Empire and emperors) being assassinated.
And Marcus Aurelius did not have an easy life. He inherited the empire collapsing. Was forced to marry her whore cousin, which led to most of his kids dying very early (9 of them did not reach adult life, and the only male who survived was insane).
I know people who mentally checked off for much less.
The issue with Marcus Aurelius's teachings is that he did not write what he wrote expecting to publish it. He did not even plan to show it to someone... It just happens he was great, and therefore people seek his wisdom.
Sure, Seneca is a much better Stoic philosopher, but it's not his fault he was an emperor and people go straight for him.
