Not much. There are not many Francophiles, France is not talked about much unless there is an current event, and French seems almost an exotic language. French studies departments are occupied by women, while German studies have a higher percentage of men. Politically, French is the area of interest for either left-wing liberals or extreme conservatives but definitely not the mainstream
