No, and no real experience with snow and ice mountaineering in general. I and my group stopped at the glacier and turned around. I would like to eventually get into that sort of thing though and do the Hoh River Trail again but actually summit Mt. Olympus.

Hyperion, yes, back during the short window of a few years after the location had been leaked but before an exclusion zone was demarcated (with fines for entering). Didn't take any pictures because we arrived at sundown (on the shortest day of the year; great planning) and had to turn back to try to find the trail again before the light was totally gone. Also, a picture from the ground wouldn't do it justice. It would just look like any other big coast redwood. Some authorized people (maybe NatGeo or something) made a composite image from drone-captured images though.

I've also seen General Sherman, the largest tree by volume (very easy to access), and I hope to see Methuselah, the oldest known living (non-clonal) tree (whose location has been leaked if you know where to look) to get another superlative tee under my belt. California remarkably has all three of these superlative trees.

Picrel is just some Great Basin bristlecone pine tree, not Methuselah.

when I was a kid, this was the most magical place on earth. We'd always come here to visit my grandma for christmas or just to pay her a visit and as a kid, I spent so much time on the buff or at the tidepools that the area is still burned into my brain decades later. I want you to imagine being a kid when spongebob came out and seeing all these funny sea creatures and then you can just walk down to this rocky outcropping surrounded by pounding surf(oh my god it was so fun to watch waves smash against the rocks in huge plumes of foam) and see all the same crustaceans and creatures you saw on the television like sea anemones, starfish, crabs, plankton, occasionally a whale spout out in the distance, jumping around rocks and climbing cliffsides, going into a cave once within the cliffside and rushing to get out back out before the tide came in. There were fucking SEA LIONS bathing by the dozens right on the other side of a cliff, and you could stare down at them as they sunbathed or made their adorable barking sounds. There were these large rocks farther out in the ocean that had seaweed growing out of them that looked like trees, and when the waves crashed against them I'd imagine they were getting hit by a hurricane.

this particular outcrop of trees in pic related(ignore the geezer, I got this from google but I recognize the exact place and trail because) I'd clumb up and the branches stretched out over the bluff so youre just sitting on this thich tree branches right over a 20 foot drop into the ocean while waves crashed below you. 20 or 30 ft away theres a staircase down to a beach that few people used so there was no jostling for space
there was an archway of rocks that either was manmade or carved by centuries of surf and I still have it as my phone lock screen from when I was 14 and I climbed down to get to it right as the tide rolled in

god I miss it so much

Too bad that the parking lots are almost as big as the village.
If you get there in winter there's a nice ski station 5 miles from there, you get there using s couple of cable cars. They also rent snowshoes too if you can't ski.

Did you know?
All those trees will eventually die anyways.
That region no longer has comparable fog banks rolling in from the Pacific like it did daily during ancient times, so the same trees will never grow that big again.
And nature won't even notice either way.
The world's tallest or oldest tree or largest contiguous organism or animal is only of value to human beings because they think it's cool.
It has no larger significance.

Grizzly bears? Their range does extend a bit into Washington state, but not into the Olympic peninsula. Black bears do inhabit the area though. cameras have had to be beaten into a semblance of the human eye. there is nothing automatic or given about how the human eye sees the world against the many alternative ways of seeing, and a camera will always be an imperfect means of replicating the eye. as such, insofar as a photographer's goal is to capture what he sees, there is no meaningful impurity in editing, unless there is also impurity in using a camera

It does have it's beauty in a lot of places. Awesome architecture. Excellent food, you can get Argentinian barbecue, Spanish paella, Rustico sandwiches with god tier prosciutto, might all be in the same neighborhood. The view from the beaches are beautiful, clean, with mountains and skylines visible all around. Culturally it feels hostile though and excessively globalized. I went into multiple convenience stores where it was some guy from Pakistan working who could barely speak English, let alone Spanish and definitely not Catalonian. That was shocking. At least in Paris/Marseille all the Arabs bother to learn French and maybe some English. And the locals make it obvious they hate you unless they're Castillians.
