I hope this city (Busan) will be like San Francisco, but its potential has been wasted on the apartment and zoomers draining to Seoul

Busan will NEVER be like san francisco. south koreans aren't capable of the level of innovation and entrepreneurship. san francisco pulls the best from across the world and you think your podunk shithole can compare?

Many of the top tier tech companies are located in Seongnam-si. Gangnam is for new startups like cryptocurrency, stock-related applications. LG research center is located on a different side of the Seoul

it is funny you bring this up, but yes lol it is. possibly the most segregated city I've ever lived in.

The actual city center, san francisco, is majority white and asian. cross the bay bridge to east bay and you are in oakland, which feels majority black / hispanic (but east bay is quite diverse and segregated as well, also a strong asian presence everywhere).

up in berkeley it's far more asian/indian due to the university, and down in fremont it is solidly immigrant chinese communities.

down in south bay you have the incredibly weatlhy communities of atherton, stanford, palo alto which are pretty solidly white, but further down south in san jose / east palo alto you get the bay area's most hispanic region with a lot of mexican immigration.

The actual city itself (san francisco) is without a doubt the best place I've ever lived. the energy there is fucking insane. there are just SO MANY smart and driven people working on the most amazing projects you've ever heard of in your life, trying every fucking day to change the world. and it's not just soulless FAANG slop like you find in seattle, it's young people just building shit. it's beautiful.

the entire bay area kind of has this energy due to the presence of berkeley and stanford. but the east bay has issues with crime and silicon valley / south bay is just kind of geriatric. san francisco is truly a special place, even in the bay area.

Nawh, city center is mostly homeless trash, blacks, hispanic thugs and normal white people and asians during the working hours. The peninsula is mostly white followed a ways off by Asians. Down further south near San Jose/Cupertino, its mostly white followed by Asians (both indians and east asians). Oakland/Berkley is mostly Hispanic, some black, and a lot of South East Asians (mostly viets but good mix of laos/cambodian/thai) and quite a few whites who live up in the hills.

I've lived in the bay area for years, I went to UC Berkeley, I've lived in san francisco after graduation, I've rented a place in palo alto too. Yes I've actually lived there, literally all over the bay area. it's a fucking magical place. there is a reason why startup founders from across the planet flock to sf.

and no, it's not that expensive. it's possible to spend less than $1000 a month while living in the city if you really need to be there. it's all up to how much you want it, and how dedicated you are to making it work.

When I lived in SF my monthly expenses were around $1200 a month I think

even ignoring tech entirely it's easily the best place I've ever lived. the city is super walkable and it has an insane amount of natural beauty, the weather is perfect (arguably the most perfect weather of any city in the USA) and it's filled with the most impressive urban parks I've ever seen. it's one of two actual cities in the USA, the other one being NYC.

yes SF does have homeless people, but they are concentrated into the tenderloin and along certain other streets. honestly the problems that SF has are problems that every city has. ultimately some people just don't like cities.

I guess Tokyo has the top tier international companies, but if you want a normal life, other cities like Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka are totally fine. All have their own entertainment districts, shopping, subways, etc.
