African Americans are more native to the Americas because their ancestors were brought as slaves to the New World in the 16-18th century and ancestors of today's white population arrived in the early 20th century.

Foundational Black Americans are an "indigenous" people to this continent in a very technical sense.

Not only that, only the "black race" is a thing. Euro immigrants still held some culture because they went there under their own volition, thus it's dumb to call yourself just "white" when you know exactly where your ancestors came from.

For Black people, being African Americans is the only thing they know.

Slavery in the USA didn't pick up until the invention of the cotton loom in 1785.
In all but two southern states the white population outnumbered the black population.
For most slavery lasted 80 years.
