Sweden is Rootsi, which is cognate with Russia because the state of Rus was founded by a tribe of swedish vikings

There's probably a mistake in your interpretation because everything in Europe that was once "foreign" was etymologically related to "the Gauls" or "the Walloons" or "the Welsh", etc.
Proto-germanic root "Walha*z". That became "Gaul" for the Romans by consonant shift, remained a form of "Walh" (Walloon, Welsh, etc.). Here in Alsace, we call the Alsatians who don't speak Alsatian (related to their territory in the Vosges mountains) "Welches".

Turkey, in English, is named after the breaded meat dinosaurs children eat here. Not sure why though.

We still call the UK Great Britain, sometimes. Even in formal documents. Colloqually "Inggris" (England). I also just checked the UK Embassy website and they referred to it as "Inggris Raya" which would be literally translated as "Great England". I guess the other K's aren't that important to the foreign affairs people.
