Me and my boyfriend were the only people across my friend group and classmates that interned at all in college, so I would say moderately hard, although I do think everyone else should have tried harder. Me and my bf both got Internships sophomore year, and since we had internship experience we could get better internships junior and senior year, while all my friends didn't even try until junior or senior year so at that point they're competing with people with years of internships so of course they're gonna get rejected.

I'd say it depends a lot on your field and location. In my field and in my city it is fairly easy due to Siemens and it's spin offs having the majority of their engineering and research jobs in Europe here.
