The problem is Boeing's design.

You can just switch off the buttons and that's it. Doing it in an Airbus requires more steps and it's partly automated. All humans make mistakes and you have to assume that when you design stuff. Boeing shills will cope and try to use anti-Indian racism to attack the pilot, but the core problem is Boeing's design philosophy. Anyone could have made that mistake, even if it's just a one in a million chance, and if a simple mistake makes your airplane crash then the core problem is with the airplane, not the pilot.

No, you can not. For one thing there's a guard next to the cut off switches, so you can't accidentally touch them. The second thing is that in Boeings the cut off switches have to be pulled out a bit, then put down. If you just flick them down they don't move, they're stuck.
To switch off the engines requires a very deliberate move.
