In some European countries your income is public information. In most Nordic countries I believe this is the case, anyone who knows your name can either call an agency or look you up online to see how much you earn. I have no idea how easy this information is to access, for all I know it could be a massive pain in the ass.

This is a bit of a cynical question, but does this effect dating at all? Is it common for women to look men up to find how much they earn in order to decide if they're worth pursuing? I can say with pretty much 100% certainty that if such a system of public income existed in America that's definitely how it would be used.
