This is my usual experience as a half Russian working in tourism.
Try to be polite and explain things to Ukrainians in English. They don’t know shit in English. Switch to Russian

It'll be OK but with younger people you can just speak English, most young people can speak basic English anyway, Russian would only help if you talk to some older people who don't understand English at all
