here you swipe your credit card and it pays after you pumped

it used to work like it does here, but a bunch of people started to fill their tanks and drive off without paying, which is why they changed their policy into pay now fuel later.

This. It might be better further inland, but on the coast you'd never find a station where you pay after pumping.

You have to pay first if you pay by card here, if you pay in the shop you can fill and then go pay in the shop

Nope. I live in the Midwest and even in the absolute nicest safest places if you want to pay inside you have to go in and pay the cashier first before the pump will have your amount put on it
