What's your opinions on the police in your country? Positive or negative is fine. Is there anything unique about them compared to other countries?

I wish they'd do their job. Most reported crimes don't get investigated.

There is a type of person that policing attracts in a country like this where depravity is the norm. It's not a normal person.

Our police are competent in comparison to other countries in the region but are also corrupt. However, the corruption is mainly at the low levels, so in a sense, it is good because you can pay the cop RM50 instead of the RM300 fine. The cops mainly extort illegal immigrants for money and leave locals alone. Our high level cops are strangely apolitical and didn't take sides during changes in governments. This is highly unusual in ASEAN and should be commended. In terms of use of force, our cops are fairly lenient and rarely use their guns, even though they are heavily armed. Even patrolcar cops carry submachineguns. When possible, they rather surround and force a surrender instead of going trigger happy.

Most cops here are high school graduates only, or college dropouts. And the job seems to attract power-trippers who think of it as a way to get authority over their fellow people.

That being said I'm still overall kinda pro-cop, since nobody else is gonna keep the violent negroids in check here. If something does happen, most anti-cop people still call the cops at the end of the day.

I think the Police should be intelligent, highly trained and well paid
I also think they should be armed with pistols and tasers and they should be regularly trained with both, I want them to reach for their taser during low to medium risk situations and their pistol in higher risk situations
There should be a command responsibility placed on the Police
There should be an independent body responsible for overseeing the Police force
