Yes, my only windown faces the sun (and street) all day from morning to evening. Then I sit in here and post on the 'chans with my massive 2019 year gaming computer and fans and fridge etc running. I can only crack the window too, not open it, and it's my only source of air.

Idk what model do you have? I have TXL PDL12 (12k btu rated for 35m) in my ~17m room and it's enough. Maybe you've really bought an underpowered one or it's faulty.

I'm pretty sure his unit is defective.
Even back when I moved in here I had a waaaay under-powered unit (also an Electrolux like my current one but only rated for 25m2, my apartment is 38m2) and it still cooled the place down at least 5-6 degrees as long as I had the blinds and curtains closed to keep the sun out.

Clearly not true in my case.
If you only have outside air vents then yeah I guess that might be a problem but every apartment here since like the 60's usually have the internal vents feeding from a main venting system located in the basement of the building.
Without my portable AC on, I can just about feel a cool stream of air coming from them in my kitchen and bathroom. With the AC on, it's a steady stream of cool air plus the actual AC doing it's job.
